Palm oil company Musim Mas Group has reaffirmed its commitment to improving lives by announcing a S$5 million donation to selected local charities. This latest contribution brings the group's total donations since 2019 to S$16 million.

Musim Mas has a strong presence in the philanthropic scene and has consistently shown dedication to enhancing the well-being of communities in the regions where it operates. In 2019, the group donated S$1 million to the Alzheimer's Disease Association (ADA), followed by a S$5 million donation in June 2020 to assist five charity organizations affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, Musim Mas pledged an additional S$5 million to six charities.

Alvin Lim, the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director of Musim Mas Group, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to make this donation. He emphasized the company's belief in empowering communities and providing support to those in need. This contribution serves as a testament to Musim Mas' commitment to creating a more equitable and supportive society for all Singaporeans.

Supporting Various Causes

The S$5 million donation from Musim Mas will be allocated to various causes, including healthcare research, mental health, support for people with disabilities, assistance for the underprivileged, youth development, and sports initiatives. This commitment aligns with the government's call to strengthen Singapore's social compact through the Forward Singapore exercise, ensuring that no one is left behind in the nation's pursuit of an inclusive society.

Beneficiaries of Musim Mas' Donation

One of the beneficiaries of Musim Mas' donation is PCF Sparkletots @ Joo Chiat, which will receive S$300,000 to initiate a bursary program. This program aims to enable children from underprivileged families to attend pre-school and receive a quality education. The sponsorship launch event, held on April 28, received praise from Edwin Tong, the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law. Tong commended Musim Mas for sharing the government's vision of strengthening the social compact and making significant contributions to the community.

Other organizations that will benefit from Musim Mas' donation include the Majurity Trust, the Community Chest, SportCares (the philanthropic arm of Sport Singapore), and the Salvation Army. The Majurity Trust will utilize the funds to support non-profits and charities that provide mental health support for youths and children through the Musim Mas Blue Star Fund. The Community Chest will distribute the donation to various causes that aid the underprivileged, at-risk children and youths, and other vulnerable groups. SportCares will use the funds to support the underprivileged in their pursuit of sports activities, while the Salvation Army will allocate the donation to fund its community programs.

Supporting Healthcare Research and Organizations

Musim Mas has also extended its support to healthcare research and organizations dedicated to mental health, disabilities, and children with cancer. The Singapore General Hospital will establish the first Asian hub for the Global Mental Health Innovation Network (MHIN Asia) using the S$1 million donation. The National Neuroscience Institute will use its share of the funds to establish a Neuroscience Education Fund, while the VIVA Foundation for Children with Cancer and the Happee Hearts Movement will utilize the donations for medical research and holistic clinical services, respectively. The Metta Welfare Association will support its Youth Employment Support programs aimed at empowering young individuals with intellectual disabilities through vocational training.
